"Pasithea" A dream within a dream
"Pasithea" A dream within a dream
Pasithea is the goddess of sleep and dreams.
In Greek mythology, pasithea is the personification of relaxation, meditation, hallucinations and all other altered states of consciousness.
She is the wife of Hypnos, the god of sleep and the mother of Morpheus, the god of dreams; she may also have been regarded as a goddess of hallucinations and hallucinogenic drugs (as the Greeks did use them for ceremonies and such.)
As a minor goddess, the only real tale where she shows up is in the story where Hypnos decides to help put Hera to sleep so that Zeus can get up to one of his many schemes (one which Hera would have frowned up.) As a reward for his services, Zeus gave Pasithea, his daughter, to Hypnos in Olympian marriage.
