"Lady Penrose"
"Lady Penrose"
I have been continuing to paint women from the past. This time it is Lee Miller. Lee was an actress and fashion model in New York City in the 1920s before going to Paris, where she became a fashion and fine art photographer. It was then when she met Man Ray, a famous photographer and became his apprentice. Lee was not only his apprentice but his lover and muse as she was the inspiration of his most well known work.
During the Second World War, she was a war correspondent for Vogue and became the first female photojournalist to do so.
A while after her death, in 1980, her son Antony Penrose discovered thousands of negatives and prints of her mum's work and started to promote her work so she will never become forgotten.
